It was a rough postgame presser for the Oilers’ captain after another loss in the Cup Final, and some are accusing him of throwing his coach under the boss. Watch below:
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid met with the media following his team’s Game 6 loss to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night, and the video of his postgame presser is kinda heartbreaking to watch.
A dejected McDavid is seen describing what went wrong for his team and expressing his frustration at not being able to adjust in their series against the Panthers.
At one point, when asked the difference was in this series, McDavid dropped a f-bomb and seemed to take a shot at the Oilers’ head coach Kris Knoblauch and the rest of the coaching staff in Edmonton.
“We kept fuckin’ trying the same thing over and over again, just banging our heads against the wall.”
During his own press conference after a second consecutive loss to the Panthers in the Final, Knoblauch was asked about the future and he did not want to look ahead just yet.
“There’s no silver lining to this, it’s very difficult to handle right now,” he told the media at the postgame press conference. “It hurts right now and I don’t think it’s gonna let up for a while.”
“It feels farther away,” Knoblauch said when comparing Tuesday’s loss to last year’s Final. “We went to Game 7 last year. I certainly felt things could have been a lot differently,” Knoblauch said. “We were probably overall healthier last year as a whole, but we had everyone in the lineup. This year, missing (Zach) Hyman was a big hole for us. But yeah, I think it was last year we were a lot closer because we went to Game 7 and that Game 7 was so close.”
There is no doubt that some changes will have to come in Edmonton, especially when it comes to figuring out the goalie situation and what needs to be done on the back end.
Following McDavid’s comments however, some wonder if general manager Stan Bowman will look at the possibility of making some changes as well behind the team’s bench.
