Despite the fact that there was no score through the first period between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers the game was pretty exciting with some great scoring chances and some big physical plays.

The highlight of the period however has to go to the car crash between 24-year-old Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy and 23-year-old Flyers forward Taylor Leier.

Unfortunately for Leier he was the man on the receiving end of the worst of it as Murphy drilled him with a huge open ice, sending Leier's glove flying through the air in rather dramatic fashion.

While the impact was incredible the video replay shows that Murphy may have left his skates and launched himself up into the head of Leier, and that could draw the ire of the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety.
