Connor Zary-AJ Greer-Hit

Connor Zary injured after terrible hit from behind.

One of the ugliest hits you will ever seen in the NHL.

I simply do not see a universe in which Florida Panthers forward AJ Greer avoids being suspended by the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety after this one, although I have been surprised by decisions from Player Safety in the past.

On Friday night, Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary was injured in the third period of a clash between the Flames and Panthers when he was on the receiving end of an extremely questionable hit from Greer.

Greer was beat by Zary to the puck, this in spite of the fact that Zary was being hooked in the midsection by Greer's stick only moments earlier and, in what appeared to be an act of pure frustration, Greer would respond with a forceful 2-handed shove to the back of Zary. The shove was more than enough to knock the young Flames forward off balance and that would in turn send him sliding head first into the boards in sickening fashion.

Zary would head back to the Flames locker room under his own power but did not return to the game.

Here is a replay of the hit:

This is exactly the kind of hit that the NHL has tried to take out of the game and, with NHL Player Safety under fire just recently for some of their decisions, I suspect that Greer may be in for a lengthy suspension here.

Former NHL player Kelly Hrudey was on the broadcast for this game and made it quite clear that he feels Greer should receive more than 5 games for this.

"I'm sure there will be an in-person meeting with George Paros after this one," said Hrudey. "There has to be."

How many games should Greer get in your opinion? Let me know what you think in the comments.
