More bad luck has come to the Toronto Maple Leafs. After losing star forward Mitch Marner to a high ankle sprain in recent days, the team announced on Friday that forward Calle Jarnkrok is out week-to-week with another hand injury, per TSN's Mark Masters.

Jarnkok sustained this injury during last night’s 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers when the forward was chasing the puck into the offensive zone in the second frame. He fell awkwardly into the sideboards, with fans even fearing that he might have hurt his head in the process of the fall. He got medical attention before skating off under his own power, but did not return to the contest.

After the game, it was quickly noted that Jarnkrok was not suffering from a concussion, but the update on his hand is also frustrating. He had just returned to the lineup after missing 13 games with a broken knuckle he suffered during Leafs’ practice in late January. This was just his sixth game back. In 52 games this season, Jarnkrok has scored 10 goals and 11 assists.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe also provided an update on Marner, making it clear that he will not play Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. When asked about a time line for Marner’s return and if he was considered day to day, this is what Keefe had to say:

“It’s more than that at this point. He won’t skate tomorrow and then we have a day off so a couple days for him to settle and sort of ramp it back up for next week.”

The Maple Leafs are heading towards the postseason as they sit third in the Atlantic Division, 10 points back of the Florida Panthers for first. They are eight points ahead of the fourth-place Tampa Bay Lightning in a tight playoff race.
But it is better to have healthy forwards for that stretch!
