You can call me biased, but there's no way that should have been a goal
The Americans have taken a 3-0 lead on Team Canada early on in the 2nd period of today's potential Gold Medal preview game but not without some controversy.
For our earlier report on this game's 1st period, click below:
With a 2-0 lead to begin the 2nd period the Americans appeared to score the game's third tally... but did they?
The play was first reviewed by officials to ensure that the puck had fully crossed the goal line.
It had and the play was ruled a goal. But again... was it?
Canada then challenged the play for goaltender interference as it was clear that goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens' pad was pushed into the goal.
See for yourself:
So no goal, right?
No.
Officials called the play a good goal, saying that there was no goaltender interference on the play. Evidently you're now allowed to push the the goaltender's pads across the line in his/her own crease... good to know.
3-0 USA in the 2nd period. Frankly, USA has been the far better team and they're creating their own good breaks in this game. If Canada can't push back in this period the game could be wrapped sooner rather than later. Stay tuned.
