Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford and his wife Kristy Crawford announced the birth of their second son, Camden Emery Crawford on Thursday.
As they celebrated such a happy moment on their lives, the netminder clearly had a sad event on his mind. It appears that the middle name for their second son is because of the late Ray Emery who was Corey’s teammate with the Blackhawks.
What a touching tribute to his friend.
In case you have forgotten, Emery died in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario after a tragic late night swimming accident in Hamilton Harbour in July 2018. Emery was reportedly swimming with friends, dove under water and never surfaced. His body was found by first responders in the early morning hours.
The former Ottawa Senators, Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks and Philadelphia Flyers goaltender was perhaps best known for being one of the toughest netminders in NHL history. Of course, Emery captured his first and only Stanley Cup championship of his career during the 2014 season with the Blackhawks. While he mostly played as a backup behind Blackhawks starter Corey Crawford, Emery was instrumental in the team’s Stanley Cup victory, spelling the younger Crawford when he needed it. He was an effective backup for the Blackhawks, no doubt about it.
And Crawford has never and will never forget it. His son will be a constant reminder of his friendship with Rayzor.
