It has just been reported that veteran forward Corey Perry is taking time away from the game to deal with a personal matter. He has been designated to a non-roster playing status.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Kings announced that Perry has been designated non-roster playing status, as he is returning home to deal with an illness in his family.

The team didn’t reveal any further details on Perry’s absence.

In a consequent move, the Kings have called up forwards Andre Lee and Taylor Ward from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Ontario Reign, on an emergency basis.

After missing the first few weeks of the 2025-26 season, due to a preseason knee injury, Perry, 40, has played in 35 games with the Kings, recording nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points, sitting tied for fourth on the team in scoring with captain Anze Kopitar.

His leadership and energy will be missed in the LA dressing room…

Perry signed a one-year deal, with a cap hit of $3.5 million, with the Kings after spending the last couple of seasons with the Edmonton Oilers.

The Kings (18-14-9) sit fourth in the Pacific Division, holding onto the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

We can only send our thoughts to Perry and wish him the best in whatever he is dealing with at this time, causing him to take time off from the Kings and the game he loves.
