The Chicago Blackhawks went into action on Tuesday night after quite a hectic day. Earlier prior to their contest against the Seattle Kraken, a press conference was held by general manager Kyle Davidson in which he explained that after being placed on waivers, veteran forward Corey Perry would have his contract terminated by the club for “engaging in conduct that is unacceptable and in violation of policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments.”

Davidson also put an end to the crazy rumours involving Connor Bedard’s mother Melanie Bedard. Earlier this week on social media sites like Reddit and X, formely known as Twitter, there was a hot rumour making the rounds that Perry actually hooked up with Melanie Bedard, mother of the Blackhawks superstar rookie. The GM stated that that no other players or their families were involved, despite speculation to the contrary. Davidson added that anyone who suggests otherwise is “wildly inaccurate” and “frankly, disgusting.”

Sources told ESPN’s Emily Kaplan that Perry indeed traveled with the team to Columbus last Tuesday and an incident occurred that day involving a team employee. Prior to the contest against the Blue Jackets that following day, Perry was “immediately pulled” from the game once the Blackhawks were notified, and at that point, the club began an investigation.

After their 4-3 win over the Kraken, some of Perry’s teammates were asked to comment on the situation as it was mentioned by GM Davidson that players weren’t aware of what transpired and led to the veteran forward’s termination. Nick Foligno and Seth Jones spoke with media and both appeared still stunned at the news and the messy situation.

“He’s a brother and we care about everyone in this room. We don’t have any details of what happened, but I know the organization wants to keep a (level of) conduct here, and a place where we hold each other to a standard. I guess that was broken.”

Foligno called the Perry news “stunning”, but added that the Hawks organization will stand up for what they believe will create the best culture.

“It’s a hard day. It doesn’t make it any easier because we care about Corey a ton and we’re gonna wish him well. But the group in here has to galvanize around this and make sure we’re holding ourselves to a high standard, and how serious the Chicago Blackhawks are about that and the culture they want to build here. We’re lucky to be a part of it.”

Head coach Luke Richardson was also asked to comment on the situation and said this on Perry, whom he’s coached back in Montreal as well:

“I recommended my good faith on a guy like him to come here, and he was doing his job on the ice. Other than that, I don’t really know what went on still, off the ice. It’s obviously disappointing that we’re in this situation but there’s no real second-guessing it. We signed him as a really good player to help us in our time of transition here, and he showed he’s done that in the past. It’s unfortunate we’re now in the situation we’re in.”

The Blackhawks got the win last night, but they will need to come together to overcome this mess and stand stronger on the other side...
