Could the Pens make a trade with the Caps?

Is the best solution in Washington?

Several trade rumors have been thrown around when talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins, and their starting goalie Matt Murray being sidelined. A few teams have been connected to veteran defenseman Ian Cole, like the Toronto Maple Leafs or Colorado Avalanche who have a goalie to swap, and even the name of Anaheim Ducks third-stringer Reto Berra was thrown into the mix.

But what if the perfect solution was in Washington? We all know the Capitals and the Penguins have an intense rivalry, but a trade could be feasible between the two rivals.

According to Yahoo Sports, the Pens could look to make a move on one of the Caps' trade chip, netminder Philipp Grubauer.

"At 26, Grubauer wants to be a starting goalie somewhere and given his impressive 2016-17 campaign, he certainly looks like he is ready to take that step. Starting goaltending can be hard to find so it would not be surprising to see a team in need jump at the chance to trade for a budding starter."

However, the situation the Pens are currently living could make the Caps think twice about trading Grubauer, especially to a club who always finds a way to eliminate them in the postseason.

"Where would the Caps be if, hypothetically, the team traded Grubauer and Braden Holtby suffered an injury?"

Maybe the Pens will have the perfect return for Grubauer, as the Caps have been needing a boost at the blue line. Cole's name could once again be thrown into the mix to complete a transaction.
