After acquiring veteran forward Jakub Voracek prior to the NHL's trade deadline this past week, the Arizona Coyotes' payroll now officially has more money committed to non-roster players than it does roster players. That is to say that the Coyotes pay more money to players who will NEVER play for them then they're actual players.

The likes of Voracek, Shea Weber, Andrew Ladd, Bryan Little, Oliver Ekman-Larsson (retained salary) and Patrick Kane (retained salary) now account for 57% of the Coyotes' payroll. If you're wondering why the team would do this, it's due to a loophole in the way that the NHL calculates its salary cap and the Coyotes are simply exploiting that loophole. In other words, they're bottoming out and then using these contracts to legally get to the NHL's salary cap floor. While the majority of the league is concerned with the salary cap ceiling, the Coyotes are more concerned with the floor.

Needless to say, the Coyotes and GM Bill Armstrong have come under a lot of criticism lately for essentially making a mockery of the NHL's rules. To which Armstrong says: "So what?"

Not exactly... but that's more or less Armstrong's sentiment according to Coyotes insider Craig Morgan.

Check it out:

Yes, they're doing business by the rules... Gary Bettman's rules. And we all know that Bettman wouldn't ever do anything to hurt his precious Coyotes...
