Oh boy things are getting ugly in the City of Toronto.

The Maple Leafs have come out of the Olympic break looking terrible with 3 consecutive losses and some ugly ones at that. Following their third straight loss on Saturday, an uninspired performance from the Maple Leafs that resulted in a 5-2 victory for the Ottawa Senators, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube made arguably the most fiery comments of his coaching tenure in Toronto.

Berube, who has looked frustrated at many times behind the bench this season, responded to a question about player motivation by openly criticizing the lack of heart and brains displayed by the players under him.

"When I look at the game and show tape we go over things and there's a certain way we need to play the game," said Berube.

"I can't give guys this," said Berube while pointing to his heart.

"Or this," said Berube pointing to his head.

If there was any question about what Berube was implying, he spelled it out clearly with his next comments.

"They have to come with that, that's gotta be on them," said Berube. "They gotta bring the heart and the competitiveness that's needed.... they gotta wanna bring that. We can bring the Xs and Os and I can go in there and yell and scream at them all I want, that's not gonna do anything either."

Berube acknowledged that this could be a difficult and unfamiliar position for many of his players to be in with the Maple Leafs outside of the playoff picture, and even suggested that the pressure of the trade deadline could be playing a factor, but dismissed those as merely unacceptable excuses.

"In saying that it's overall excuses, and we can't make excuses," said Berube. "Until guys wanna decide in there how to play the game the right way and play as a team, this is what you will get."

Berube is clearly not happy with what he has seen from him players coming out of the Olympic break, an opinion that is no doubt shared by the majority of the team's fan base.
