Berube confirms the change that many fans have been calling for.
Just as things looked as though they might be turning around for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team now finds itself the losers of 3 straight games ahead of only the basement dwelling Ottawa Senators when it comes to the Atlantic Division standings.
It is clear that the Maple Leafs are in desperate need of something, anything, at this point of the season and on Sunday it was announced that a significant change would in fact be made. Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube confirmed that 23 year old forward Jacob Quillan would be slotting into the lineup, replacing veteran Maple Leafs forward Calle Jarnkrok who will be made a healthy scratch.
It is a change that many have felt has been a long time coming.
Quillan has already played in 3 games this season but was given a relatively limited opportunity at the NHL level with many feeling that opportunity was too short. In 28 games with the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies this season he has 8 goals and 19 assists fort a very respectable 27 points over that stretch.
Berube commented on Quillan's game and praised him as a player that he believes belongs at the NHL level.
"He's a real strong skater, works extremely hard," said Berube. "Those are his traits that — he's going to be an NHL player here and over the years coming. And it's his skating and those types of things that are going to make him a good player."
