The Toronto Maple Leafs have had some bumps in the road to start the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season and, with such a large roster turnover from one season to the next, it has come as no surprise that head coach Craig Berube has been heavily tinkering with his lineup.

Monday morning was no exception with the Maple Leafs coming off of a tough loss to the Seattle Kraken over the weekend, and when the Maple Leafs hit the ice there were very early signs of big changes on the horizon.

The first clear signs that we would be seeing big changes was the fact that Max Domi and Matias Maccelli were both wearing blue jerseys while Easton Cowan was wearing a white jersey. The blue jersey signifies that a player is in the top 6 while a white jersey signals a player will be in the bottom 6, a big shift from Cowan working on the top line alongside Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.

We now know that Cowan has been downgraded significantly more than that however, with Berube showcasing a lineup on Monday that would have Cowan back to sitting on the sidelines for the time being.

Here is a look at the forward lines Berube deployed on Monday:

Knies - Matthews - Domi

Maccelli - Tavares - Nylander

Joshua - Roy - McMann

Robertson - Lorentz - Jarnkrok

The Maple Leafs will once again hit the ice on Tuesday when they will face the New Jersey Devils and it seems unlikely that we will see any other major changes before the puck drops for that game. That being said it's still early and it seems very likely that we will continue to see more shuffling from Berube until he finds a mix that he is comfortable with.
