Maple Leafs head coach responds to boos from fans at home.
Since returning from the Olympic break you could make the argument that the Toronto Maple Leafs have been the worst team in the entire National Hockey League. In fact that are the only team in the entire league to have yet to register a win since the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan, Italy have come to a close.
On Saturday night the Maple Leafs lost their 7th straight game, posting a record of 0-5-2 since returning from the Olympic break, and unsurprisingly their hometown fans had a lot to say about it as the players left the ice after a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Leafs were treated to a chorus of boos from a fan base that seems to have run out of patience with this Maple Leafs team.
Following the conclusion of the game, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was asked about the boos and what he felt about the fans expressing their anger in that fashion. To his credit, Berube placed no blame on the fans themselves and instead empathized with those who have paid a hefty price for what has been a lackluster product on the ice as of late.
"Hey they pay good money to come watch us and they wanna win just like we do," said Berube refusing to blame the fans in Toronto. "That's part of the game everywhere."
The Maple Leafs will no doubt be hearing more of the boos if the team, and the season, continues to trend in this current direction.
