The Toronto Maple Leafs have suffered back to back losses to the Detroit Red Wings to start the season. While it remains early, divisional losses such as these are the kind of losses that can come back to haunt a team later in the season and it was clear after the game that Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube believes one of his top stars needs to step up.

Berube was generally positive of his team's effort following the loss, correctly pointing that the Leafs, who dominated the Red Wings for much of the game and out shot them by a margin of 40 to 15, were in control for most of it.

"It was a good solid 60 minutes in my opinion," said Berube. "I thought we controlled the play, plenty of opportunities to score."

Berube was also impressed by the play of Leafs rookie Easton Cowan, who was on the ice for 12 shots on goal for the Maple Leafs compared to only 1 shot against, but was much more critical when it came to the topic of Leafs star forward William Nylander.

"Willy needs more shots, he doesn't have enough shots," said Berube. "In Detroit he didn't have any, had one or two tonight, he needs to attack more, he needs to shoot more, he's gotta get on the inside more and things like that."

If there were any doubts that Berube felt the Maple Leafs needed more from the star forward, he made sure to erase them.

"Yes, we do need more out of him," said Berube flatly when speaking of Nylander's play so far this season.

Only time will tell how Nylander responds to the added pressure from his head coach.
