Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube is implementing significant changes to his lineup on Sunday night, with one decision in particular leaving some scratching their heads.

Speaking with members of the media ahead of tonight's clash against the Dallas Stars, Berube informed reporters that he was taking both forwards Easton Cowan and Calle Jarnkrok out of the lineup for tonight's game. The decision to remove Cowan from the lineup, a rookie forward that most seem to feel has played relatively well even throughout the Leafs struggles, appears to be an unpopular one judging by reactions on social media.

Stepping in to tonight's game in their stead will be forwards Max Domi and Steven Lorentz, with the decision to turn to a struggling Domi seemingly the most controversial of the two.

Cowan has produced more offensively for the Leafs despite playing in fewer games this season with 4 goals and 7 assists for 11 points in his first 26 games as a Leaf, all the while being defensively responsible. Cowan certainly has not been a defensive liability this season, something that could be said about Domi who has been prone to ill timed turnovers this season.

Even reporters who regularly cover the Leafs have expressed their surprise at today's news:
