Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin and his staff have been hoping to find a player that could score goals and secure the future of his organization for years. Well, former New York Islanders' 50-goal scorer and Hall of Famer Mike Bossy may have found a solution.

He proposed a crazy blockbuster trade on 91,9 Sports, a radio station in Montreal: the Islanders would send John Tavares to the Habs, for Alex Galchenyuk, a first-round pick and two promising prospects to the Islanders.

Bossy went all the way back to 2009 to justify his claim. The Canadiens wanted to send Carey Price, Max Pacioretty, P.K. Subban and a first-round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Vincent Lecavalier. The trade finally never took place, because the Lightning was for sale at this particular point in time. But he believes the Habs could try to work a similar kind of deal today:

"Let's just say that we could get John Tavares. The Habs could give goaltender Charlie Lindgren, promising young defenceman Mikhail Sergachev, a first-round pick and a player who's similar to Pacioretty. I'm thinking about Alex Galchenyuk. Should the Canadiens give all that for Tavares? At least, I would."

Would this potential transaction put the Canadiens' future in jeopardy, or would it actually help the team in the long run?
