Crazy scrap in the hallway tunnel during New Brunswick junior game

Let the boys chuck 'em!

Even though it may not be entirely PC to say this in 2022... boys will be boys.

Sometimes you just gotta get out of the way and let the boys chuck some knuckles, like so:

Love it. That's old school hockey, right there.

This happened during a preseason game between the Miramichi Timberwolves and the Fredericton Red Wings of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MJHL). The league is a Junior A league on par with the SOJHL or the AJHL. Not much I can tell you beyond that as news from this league is pretty scarce. I do know however that this is a stellar tilt and really there's not much I need to know beyond that.

To me, small town junior hockey is some of the best hockey there is. With a new season upon us and with COVID-19 restrictions mostly in the rear view, I urge each and every one of you to get out and support some Junior A or Junior B hockey this season. If you live almost anywhere in Canada or in a hockey community in the United States, chances are there's a junior team within an hour's driving distance. These kids play their hearts out for very little money, so get out there and enjoy the show, I guarantee you won't regret it.

If you're lucky there's even a Major Junior (WHL, OHL, QMJHL) near you. The top level of junior hockey, to me, provides the very best hockey out there. These kids play with reckless abandon and are going all out in their pursuit of a sniff at the NHL Draft. Tier 1 junior A leagues like the BCHL and the USHL are pretty comparable, however. All of this is just to say that junior hockey is the best and if you're a true hockey fan, you'd be well served to get out to watch some junior hockey. Not only is the play faster and more physical than NHL hockey, but every now and then you get to see an absolutely wild scrap like the one above. Again, you won't regret it. Get out there and support local hockey!
