Crazy William Nylander trade proposal floated by Rachel Doerrie

Is this even realistic?

While the drama surrounding the future of forward William Nylander with the Toronto Maple Leafs continues to swirl, one particular hockey analyst is suggesting that the team ships him to another Eastern Conference contender.

The trade proposal comes courtesy of Rachel Doerrie, who was infamously terminated by the Vancouver Canucks; she  then subsequently claimed that she was discriminated against by the team due to an underlying medical issue.

Doerrie, who now works for The Hockey News, joined THN reporter Mikey Stephens on "The Staff & Graph" podcast and floated the following proposal that would see Nylander dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes:

"If William Nylander truly wants $10M, you have to trade him this summer, because you cannot pay him $10M. You simply cannot pay him $10M. You can pay him $9M, but you can't pay him $10M. If the trade is William Nylander for Brett Pesce and Martin Necas, I'm fine with that, like if that's what the trade is around, I don't think that's the entirety of the trade, but if the trade is built around that, that's okay."

Pesce and Necas, like Nylander, are also entering the final year of their current contracts.

Nylander very well could have sealed his fate with the Maple Leafs with multiple reports that he's standing firm in his demand of at least $10 million AAV and reported refusal to consider a discount. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have already poached one member of the Maple Leafs this past summer, signing former Calder Trophy runner up Michael Bunting to a three year deal.
