The Boston Bruins will be going up a formidable opponent tonight as the Tampa Bay Lightning are in town for an evening matchup at TD Garden, and there's been a key update provided by head coach Jim Montgomery when it comes to the health status of a few key elements of the roster.
Defenseman Derek Forbort, who was injured with a broken finger that required surgery earlier this month, is set to make his return into the lineup. The team made a corresponding move yesterday in anticipation of his return, waiving veteran defenseman Anton Stralman.
For head coach Jim Montgomery, Forbort's return will have an immediate impact on the penalty killing unit.
“The penalty kill, obviously. He starts every penalty kill. Not only that, it’s how aggressively he was playing, how he defends hard,” Montgomery told reporters Tuesday when asked what Forbort's return will aid the most. “It’s hard to gain the blue line against him because of his mobility and his angling and his good gaps. And the other part is the physical element that he brings to our team.”
For Forbort, he's certainly excited to get back into the swing of things, and he was quick to give credit to the team training staff for making it possible.
"It went by pretty quick, though", Forbort said of his injury. "The training staff did a good job at getting it back to normal... I've blocked a lot of shots, and for some reason a little wrister from the point broke it."
Tonight's game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM EST.
