The Red Wings begin a crucial road stretch tonight.
The Detroit Red Wings are enjoying at two game winning streak, having taken down both the Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks last week at Little Caesars Arena. They're now embarking on a multi-game road swing that could go a long way in determining how the rest of their regular season will fare, starting tonight with a rematch against Vancouver at Rogers Arena.
Saturday afternoon's 5-2 win over the visiting Canucks marked the very first NHL game that sophomore forward Lucas Raymond had missed in his career; he was unable to go after suffering the effects of a collision with teammate Ben Chiarot during practice the day before. He was listed as day to day, as was defenseman Jake Walman, who was injured during Thursday's win over the visiting Flames. Though he was able to return and finish the game, he didn't play against Vancouver.
According to head coach Derek Lalonde, both players are still listed as day to day.
"It helps our depth, we have a No. 1 top line winger out and a top pair D out, but it's a winnable lineup and it's been us all year long," he stated ahead of tonight's game. "We did a really good job with addressing our depth, and give ourself a chance every night.
"Day to day, we hope to get one of them if not both by one of the back to back's coming back here this week," he then said when talking about Raymond and Walman's status.
Raymond has skated in 50 games this season, scoring 15 goals with 18 assists. Right now, he's on pace to reach at least 24 tallies. Meanwhile, Walman has proven to be an extremely underrated addition to the lineup since his return from offseason surgery. He's registered nine points along with a healthy +14 plus minus rating.
The Red Wings take on the Canucks tonight starting at 10:00 PM EST.
