According to a report from Deadline.com, production has begun on a remake of the cult classic “Sudden Death” called “Welcome to Sudden Death” starring actor Michael Jai White.

The film, which is described as a “new spin” on the classic Jean Claude Van Damme action flick is expected to be released on Netflix in coordination with the 2020 Stanley Cup Final.

Check out this report courtesy of Deadline.com:

Michael Jai Whit (Black Dynamite, Tyson) and comedian Gary Owen(Daddy Day Care, Get Hard) lead the cast in a feature described as “martial arts heavy …with a comedic twist.” Welcome to Sudden Death will be a “new spin” remake of Sudden Death (1995), which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Van Damme portrayed a fireman who interceded when terrorists snatch the U.S. Vice President during the seventh game of the NHL Stanley Cup. The 1995 film was produced and written by Howard Baldwin and Karen Elise Baldwin, the owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins at the time.

No word yet on whether or not White will forced to fight Penguins mascot Iceburgh like JCVD though:
