Cutter Gauthier refused to be traded to more teams before deal with Ducks

First, he wanted out of Philly, then he wanted nothing to do with more teams?! Kid…

Earlier this month, the Philadelphia Flyers traded forward Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks in return for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a second-round selection in the 2025 NHL draft. The transaction came with much chatter about Gauthier not wanting to play in Philly and asking to be traded elsewhere. Flyers general manager Danny Briere confirmed that Gauthier informed the Flyers he didn’t want to play for the team, calling the trade “a long time coming.”

The young forward eventually spoke about his decision to be moved, stating “a private matter with his family and agent.”

“Kinda tough to talk about. I’d like to announce that it’s a personal matter between myself, my family and my agent, Kurt.”

What Gauthier did not say if that his agent, Kurt Overhardt, asked the Flyers to deal with just 12 or 14 teams when it came to moving his client. Insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Face-Off revealed on the air of the Golden Boys podcast that the Flyers ended up talking with 18-20 teams that Gauthier would sign with after he had given management in Philadelphia a possible list with his preferred landing spots on it.

This is not a great look for the young forward, who despite having yet to play a single NHL contest, assumes he can turn town half of the league in a trade. This had to be quit the head-scratcher for Philadelphia, who still ended up landing a great deal in moving Gauthier out to California.

Recent reports emerged that a trade with the Montreal Canadiens fell through at the NHL Draft this summer, and could mean that the Habs were one of the teams that Gauthier would have agreed to sign with.

Let’s just hope for the Ducks that they aren’t getting a trouble-maker that could be a similar move later on in his career.
Because, as of now, it ain’t starting off on the right foot…
