Dallas confirms worst-case scenario for Tyler Seguin

Seguin now faces another major setback, and it’s a devastating blow for the Stars’ playoff hopes.

This has just gotten worse. Earlier this morning, we pointed out how Dallas Stars top forward Tyler Seguin had to be helped off the ice by his teammates after an awkward collision in the first period of Tuesday’s game against the New York Rangers.

We have finally gotten word from team insider Mike Heika, and it’s confirmed that Seguin suffered an ACL injury and is out long term. He could miss the remainder of the season.

On the play, Rangers defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov appeared to fall directly on Seguin’s right leg with it bending in quite an unpleasant and unnatural way… As he left the ice, you could tell he seemingly favored that leg as he left the ice.

At the start of Tuesday’s matchup in New York, Seguin had put up seven goals and 10 assists in 26 games. This is another huge blow for the Stars, who are already without Matt Duchene, Lian Bichsel, Thomas Harley, Nils Lundkvist and Adam Erne.

And poor Seguin. This is another tough injury for him. This was supposed to be his time back after he was limited to just 20 regular-season appearances last season due to a hip injury that required surgery. Now just two minutes into game 27, he is out long term.

As insider Chris Johnston explains, the Stars know Seguin's ACL injury will sideline him long term and more consultation with doctors is needed to determine the exact recovery and return-to-play timeline.

When it comes to management:

"They can only use his full $9.85M cap hit on a replacement if Seguin is out for the season and playoffs."

What a brutal blow all around...
