Brad Alberts gets involved and fans talking. More below:
There have been many rumours going on in Dallas. Some wonder why Stars general manager Jim Nill has yet to re-sign Jason Robertson to an extension, especially after he made room this past weekend by trading Mason Marchment.
There is a sense that Dallas could be looking for some help to support Mikko Rantanen and could take a serious shot at Mitch Marner. It seems abundantly clear that the pending free agent winger will test the market, and he has a three-team preference list which includes the Vegas Golden Knights, the Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars.
With everything going on in Dallas, transactions, trade rumours and a one-year mostly bonus heavy contract extension for captain Jamie Benn, the Stars could be making room for a real shot at Marner.
And then on Thursday evening, Stars CEO and president Brad Alberts brought even more intensity to the rumours when he made a simple tweet, one emoji that always gets hockey fans going, when he posted a pair of eyes on his account, hinting at a massive move coming shortly to his team.
Many insiders believe the Stars have a good plan to sign Marner, including Elliotte Friedman who reported earlier this week on Sportsnet 590
“If you’re Dallas, is there any chance Mitch Marner says, ‘Yeah, I’m willing to go there’? Then, you’re forced into a decision [on Jason Robertson].”
Robertson, 24, is under contract with Dallas through 2026, but his role and future may come into question if the Stars feel they can indeed sign Marner as a free agent. And there is a feeling, especially after Alberts’ post that it could be possible.
