The Blackhawks Dan Carcillo has made somewhat of a curious decision regarding his upcoming hearing for a cross-check on Mathieu Perreault of the Winnipeg Jets. It's a curious move because it's hard to tell what kind of message Carcillo is trying to send in this situation. Carcillo is a repeat offender and he may feel that the in person hearing, which is required for a suspension over 5 games, may have been unnecessary for what many feel was an incident in which he was clearly not looking to injure anyone. On the other hand, Carcillo may have waived the in person hearing simply because he is resigned to his fate. It appears that Perreault has suffered an injury that will keep him out for some time, and the NHL has come down harshly on repeat offenders in the past, especially when the player on the other end of the play misses time. One thing is certain however, the NHL will make it's ruling, and whether or not Carcillo meets the NHL Player Safety Department face to face they will likely give him a harsh punishment given Perreault's injury.
