The Penguins head coach reveals his plans for tonight's big game.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and their fans will have to wait to get the moment that they will all be waiting for a little later today.
On Saturday, Penguins head coach Dan Muse confirmed his plans for Saturday night's preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. While you normally wouldn't anticipate a ton of buzz or hype around a preseason game, this is of course the very same game in which beloved former Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury will make his return.
It has been rumored that Fleury will only appear in 20 minutes of tonight's contest and Muse has now confirmed those rumors, with goaltender Sergei Murashov playing in the other two periods.
According to Muse, Sergei Murashov will appear in the first two periods of tonight's game for the Penguins with Fleury holding down the fort in the third and presumably final period of the game. It seems there were some conversations around how things would work tonight, with Fleury explaining why they came to this decision in his own words.
"Yeah, the staff was great," said Fleury. "They asked me if I wanted to play the first or the third. At first, I thought the first [period] I would feel more warm and loose after warming up and all of that. But then in the third, maybe I could have the chance of shooting or winning a game. I think that's something I wouldn't be able to do again. I would really like to just win a game."
No doubt everyone in Pittsburgh, both fans and players, will be rooting for a win in what is likely to be Fleury's final appearance as a player in the NHL.
