Malkin collapses in pain after being injured by his own teammate.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were given quite a scare at the end of their game against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night.
What should have been a moment of celebration to the Penguins quickly turned to one of concern after Penguins star forward Evgeni Malkin appeared to suffer an injury while standing behind the Penguins bench. As the Penguins were celebrating, Malkin appeared to take a shot to the shoulder from one of his teammates, causing him to shockingly collapse to the ground in pain.
It was clear that the shoulder was the source of the issue, with Malkin clutching at that part of his body as he writhed around in pain on the bench.
Here is a look at a short video that shows the very brief incident on the Penguins bench.
Given that Malkin has a history of shoulder issues there were big concerns regarding his health after the game, but thankfully the news seems to be good on that front. Following the conclusion of the game, Penguins head coach Dan Muse provided an update on Malkin and appeared to dismiss the concerns regarding his health.
"No, there's nothing there," said Muse reassuring Penguins reporters after the game.
If Malkin has indeed avoided injury here it will be great news for the Penguins, with the 39 year old Russian center having one of his best seasons in years. Malkin has 13 goals and 27 assists for 40 points in just 36 games this season, and keeping him healthy will be pivotal to the Penguins chances of making the playoffs.
