Dante Fabbro has cashed in on his career best season.

On Sunday, National Hockey League insider Darren Dreger broke the news that Fabbro and the Columbus Blue Jackets had come to terms on a new deal, a new deal that will presumably see the former first round pick remain in Columbus for the next 4 years.

According to Dreger, this is a 4 year deal with an average annual value and salary cap hit of $4.125 million per season.

Fabbro was previously playing on a 1 year bridge deal that carried a cap hit of $2.5 million per season, meaning that this new deal represents a significant raise for the young defenseman.

Fabbro, originally selected in the first round (17th overall) by the Nashville Predators at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, arguably had the best season of his career after being dealt to Columbus this season. Fabbro recorded a career high 9 goals and 17 assists for a career high of 26 points.

Of course you always have to be wary of a player doing exceptionally well in a contract year, but it seems the Blue Jackets believe that Fabbro merely fit in well with their system this season.

It also has to be said that Fabbro accomplished all that he did this season as the Blue Jackets dealt with a unique challenge following the passing of star forward Johnny Gaudreau, making his career best season all that much more impressive given the difficult circumstances under which he performed.
