According to a report from Philadelphia Flyers insider Charlie O'Connor, the Flyers are set to add former NHLer Dany Heatley to their scouting staff.

From O'Connor:

Dany Heatley is back in the NHL!

Forgot to report this last week given how busy it was, but I heard at the draft to keep an eye out for Dany Heatley potentially joining the Flyers' organization in the coming days/weeks in a scouting role.

Near as I can tell Heatley has not been involved with an NHL team or any professional hockey team at any level since retiring back in 2016. I don't know what his qualifications are for scouting, but he's got a wealth of experience from his nearly 20 year playing career.

The now 42 year old put up 372 goals and 791 points in 869 games split between the Atlanta Thrashers, Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks. He last played for professional hockey for the Nuremburg Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers of the German DEL league in 2015-16. Most fans probably remember him best for his back to back 50 goal and 100+ point sseasons with the Senators in 2005-06 and 2006-07. Together with Daniel Aldredsson and Jason Spezza, Heatley was part of one of the most deadly offensive lines in the entire NHL.

He won the 2002 Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie with the Thrashers and had some incredible early career success with the team, but his involvement in a tragic car crash that claimed the life of teammate and friend Dan Snyder made it difficult for Heatley to remain in Atlanta. The Thrashers traded him to the Senators a blockbuster deal involving now Hall of Famer Marian Hossa. Again, Heatley's biggest successes came with the Senators team, where he helped lead the team to a Stanley Cup Final appearance against the Anaheim Ducks in 2006-07.

He went on to join the Sharks and put up two good seasons for the club, but couldn't help them get over their playoff hump like Sharks fans hoped he would. The Wild took a chance on him in 2011 and he essentially played out the string of his career with the team, playing a further six games with the Ducks in 2014-15 before receiving a demotion to the AHL.
