The 2019-20 NHL season started out pretty rough for the Winnipeg Jets, who announced before their opener that defenseman Dustin Byfuglien was granted a leave of absence to ponder his NHL future. Byfuglien is said to be weighing his options at the moment and remains without a timetable for a decision. The veteran player is believed to “have lost his love for the game.”

However on Tuesday night, Darren Dreger had some an encouraging update on the situation, which he shared on the edition of Insider Trading on TSN.

“There’s a growing sense of optimism that Dustin Byfuglien may indeed return to the Winnipeg Jets. Now, clearly there’s nothing official. There’s no guarantee. There’s no timeline on when Byfuglien may return and you’re not going to get the Winnipeg Jets to confirm nor deny. It’s just a sense that he’s more likely to return than not, which is saying something, considering all the speculation over the last few weeks. Despite the concerns over the time missed, he would be a welcomed addition to a very inexperienced blueline. But I’m thinking from a Jets perspective, time will tell.”

This would be terrific news for the Jets, who have surprised most fans this early in the season despite all injuries to their roster, especially on their back end.

Byfuglien would be more than welcomed back by the team and the fans, who cannot wait to cheer his name!
