Dave Tippett retires from coaching

The longtime NHL coach, canned by the Oilers in February, packs it in.

In his latest column for TSN, insider Pierre LeBrun breaks down the NHL's coaching candidates this offseason namely big names like Barry Trotz, Peter DeBoer and Mike Babcock, but lost in the shuffle of all the quality coaches out there is Dave Tippett.

Tippett, of course, was fired from his job as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers this past February after three years with the team. But, if you're wondering if Tippett's name will be bandied about this offseason as a potential target for teams like the Vegas Golden Knights, Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas Stars think again. LeBrun managed to get some quotes from Tippett that seems to indicated Tippett is indeed done coaching, at least at the NHL level.

Check it out:

“I haven’t ruled out working in hockey or private business, just don’t see myself coaching anymore.”

- Dave Tippett

More from LeBrun:

We’ve probably seen the last of Tippett behind an NHL bench. Tippett has always had real estate business projects on the go so he’s busy with that. And don’t forget that before being lured to coach in Edmonton, he was actually working on the business side in management with expansion Seattle and was enjoying that new side of things.

- Pierre LeBrun

Farewell, Coach Tippett. Solid coaching career, but I don't think many Oilers fans will be shedding tears over his retirement.
