David Backes breaks down in tears after being eliminated from the playoffs.

It was a night of pure joy and jubilation for the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, and with veterans like Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau getting a chance to win a Stanley Cup even fans of rival teams were glad to see them advance.

It was however an equally devastating evening for the St. Louis Blues and a number of their veteran players after yet another crushing disappointment in the postseason, and after the game it was clear David Backes was taking it particularly hard.

Backes attempted to tell a story to the media of how selfless his teammates had been in the playoffs, speaking of the sacrifices they made to get the team as far as they did, but when attempting to mention the specific example of Steve Ott he was overcome with emotion.

It was a difficult moment to watch, and a rare honest look at a player after a crushing moment in his career.
