David Kampf is joining a rival Canadian team after quitting the Maple Leafs.
The David Kampf saga is officially over.
On Saturday evening, the Vancouver Canucks officially announced that they had signed the now former Maple Leafs forward to a brand new deal. The news came directly from Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin, with the new deal reportedly a 1 year deal with an average annual value and salary cap hit of $1.1 million per season.
This will no doubt leave a bitter taste in the mouths of the Maple Leafs fan base with Kampf now joining a rival Canadian team and doing so at a much cheaper price tag than the one the Maple Leafs were paying for his services.
Of course this also means that Kampf has left millions of dollars on the table, with his previous deal worth significantly more at an average annual value and cap hit of $2.4 million per season.
Kampf has proven himself to be a very solid bottom 6 two-way type of forward throughout his career in the National Hockey League and will no doubt be tasked with filling that same role with the Canucks now moving forward.
Kampf has not played a single game in the NHL this season and was instead limited to just 4 games in the American Hockey League with the Toronto Marlies. Kampf had no goals and just 1 assist over those 4 games, but it was obvious that his heart was never in it, eventually leading to him forcing his way out of Toronto.
Let me know what you think of Kampf's decision in the comments.
