The dramatic saga around former Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf came to an end this past week when Kampf and the Maple Leafs agreed to mutually terminate his contract, making Kampf a free agent with the veteran forward quickly signing a new deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

It was an ugly process that was clearly brought on by a very unhappy player, although most seemed to have some empathy for Kampf who was relegated to the American Hockey League due to salary cap constraints despite very obviously being an NHL level player. Given all that it would be understandable if Kampf was a little bitter about how it all went down, especially when you consider the fact that he left millions of dollars on the table in the process, but that in fact may not be the case.

Over the weekend Kampf took to social media to share a message with his fans in Toronto, expressing nothing but good thoughts and feelings about his tenure as a member of the Maple Leafs.

Here is his message unedited and in full:

It’s been a pleasure Toronto. A great chapter of my life but the time has come to move on. I gave everything I had to this organization and city and I’ll always be thankful for the opportunity I got here. Thank you to all my teammates I got to spend those years with I wish you guys all the best. Also, special thank you to each and every one of the Leafs staff for taking care of me and my family through the years. Toronto will always have a special place in our hearts. Excited for the future with Canucks!

It was a classy message from Kampf who had a lot of reasons to be angry about how his time in Toronto came to an end. Not only does this reflect well on his character as far as fans in Toronto will be concerned, but it also bodes well for the Canucks who are clearly getting a player with a good head on his shoulders.
