David Pastrnak’s attitude plays a lot into contract stalemate with Bruins

This is what is different about Pastrnak compared to other players entering the final year of their deals:

The Boston Bruins are lucky. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, there has been no hard deadline set by David Pastrnak’s camp when it comes to talks on a contract extension in Boston.

His attitude plays for a lot when it comes to getting a deal done, seeing that the Bruins aren’t pressured into putting a contract now with just over a week left before the start of the season. They also won’t have to put talks on the shelf until the summer as Pastrnak doesn’t mind negotiating during the campaign.

This is how Friedman explained it on his latest 32 Thoughts podcast with Jeff Marek:

“Yeah, that’s a big one and I obviously think it’s a huge extension for a lot of reasons. One of the things I heard about Pastrnak is that he’s not afraid to continue discussions into the season. I don’t believe there is a hard deadline here.

I think Pastrnak, from everything I’ve seen about this guy, and heard and read about this guy, he has a real healthy balance about his life and his competitive nature, and where he is. I don’t think he’s the kind of guy who can be bothered by it too much. So I’ve heard he won’t be afraid of letting the conversations go into the season.

I mean, the other thing to is, just because someone says ‘I’m not going to talk during the year, doesn’t mean they will. It depends on the person. Johnny Gaudreau held to that. He said he wasn’t going to talk last year. He did. But I remember there was a year, think it was Sergei Bobrovsky‘s last contract with Columbus, he said he was going to talk during the season and they signed an extension during the year.

But from what I understand about Pastrnak, he’s not necessarily going to be afraid of having his agent handle discussions during the year.”

Pastrnak has made it clear how he would love to reach an agreement on a new contract past 2022-23 with the Bruins. Before training camp kicked off last week, GM Don Sweeney also stated that he is not too concerned either about the reality that the contract extension talks would creep into the 2022-23 regular season.

That does not mean that Pastrnak will sign soon, but at least we know negotiations can continue throughout the season and won’t affect the star forward’s work on the ice!
