David Perron gets brutally honest on what Red Wings must fix
Detroit once again failed to start on time last night.

It was a frustrating night for the Detroit Red Wings, as they once again fell behind by several goals against their opposition before finally deciding to try and mount a comeback effort. The New York Rangers put a five-spot on Detroit last night before they began fighting their way back into it, scoring three goals in the third period before the final buzzer went.
Detroit was able to fight their way back against the New York Islanders and Boston Bruins last week after falling into 2-0 holes and ultimately emerge victorious, though no such happy ending took place last night.
It's been a disturbing pattern for the Red Wings of late, who find themselves being outplayed by a wide margin early on. The Florida Panthers began their game on November 2 against Detroit enjoying a 9-0 margin in shots before Detroit was finally able to test goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
Needless to say, if the Red Wings have any intentions on finally breaking through and qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2016, they'll need to end this habit.
Veteran forward David Perron, who has himself a Stanley Cup ring as a member of the St. Louis Blues in 2019 and isn't getting any younger, wants to taste playoff hockey again and knows that Detroit needs to break out of their early-game funk.
"There is a desire to get out of this rebuild," he explained today to Le Journal de Montreal. "The level of play from the Red Wings has declined in the past several years. But reconstruction must now shift in the other direction. What does it mean? Is it a playoff participation? I hope so, especially at my age. But we clearly want to fight until the end and play meaningful games. We have to take a big step as an organization.”
The Red Wings are right back at it tomorrow night against another division rival, as the Montreal Canadiens pay a visit to Little Caesars Arena. Will they be able to start on time?
