David Portnoy's emotional reaction to Oilers victory goes viral

“The cup doesn't belong in South Florida!”

The Edmonton Oilers have pulled one of the more remarkable reversals of fortunes, as they were 31st overall in the National Hockey League standings just over 200 days ago. Now, they're just four wins away from capturing their first Stanley Cup since 1990, and the nation of Canada's first Stanley Cup win since 1993.

The Oilers clinched their first berth in the Stanley Cup Final since 2006 thanks to last night's victory over the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final, matching a bizarre record that hadn't been accomplished since 1990. They became the first NHL team to win a postseason game with only 10 shots on goal, a playoff shot total that hadn't been even seen since 2008.

And as the Oilers prepare to face off against the Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers starting next Saturday night, one particular media figure is basking in the victory. Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy, who went viral for brutalizing the performance of Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner earlier in the postseason, is instead going viral for his jubilant reaction to Edmonton's advancement to the championship round.

"I told you this team would do it! I told you this team would do it," an excited Portnoy exclaimed. "I never doubted this team! We dominated that game start to finish! We're not done! We're not done! We're not done!"

And then he dropped a line that the Panthers will certainly be able to use as bulletin board material, saying that the Stanley Cup has no business being in South Florida.

"The Cup doesn't belong in South Florida," Portnoy exclaimed. "It belongs in Edmonton! It belongs in Edmonton!"

Of course, the Stanley Cup "belongs" to the team that ultimately prevails on the ice, whether they be from snowy Alberta or sunny South Florida. Either way, Portnoy's excitement is being felt all across Edmonton.
