The Vancouver Canucks have just annonced that they have acquired defenseman Filip Hronek and Detroit’s 2023 4th round pick in exchange for the conditional 1st round draft pick acquired in the Bo Horvat trade with the New York Islanders and Vancouver’s 2nd rd pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

With the protections on the 2023 first-round pick, the pick has the potential to turn into a 2024 first-round pick.

Hronek is currently in the second year of a three-year, $13.2 million contract. He will be a restricted free agent when the deal expires.

Last night, Hronek left after eight minutes of ice time with with an upper-body injury. Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde explained that Hronek had already entered the contest with an upper-body injury, so he could have aggravated something. However it did not stop the Canucks from acquiring him.

Hronek was among Detroit’s leaders with a plus-eight rating and has played a massive part for the Red Wings all season, posting 29 assists and 38 points in 60 games, and averaging 21:32 of ice-time a night.
