This just in, the Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenseman Samuel Girard and a 2nd round pick from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Brett Kulak.

Avs fans on social media are not happy with the deal and are hopeful that it sets them up for another move in the coming weeks.

“First of all, we would like to thank Samuel for all he has done for the Avalanche organization both on and off the ice over the last nine seasons. 'G' is a great person and teammate and was a big part of the group that helped our turnaround back in 2017,” said Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland in a prepared statement. “We wish him and his family the best of luck in Pittsburgh.

“In Brett, we are acquiring a two-way defenseman who can play up and down the lineup. He logs big minutes in all situations and brings a ton of playoff experience that will help our blue line depth.”

It should be noted that the Avs save nearly $2.5 million with this deal.

As for the Penguins, by flipping Kulak who was acquired in the Tristan Jarry for Stuart Skinner goalie swap, they have essentially flipped Jarry and Sam Poulin into Skinner, Girard and two 2nd round picks.

That's a tidy bit of business from Pens GM Kyle Dubas.
