Derek Lalonde comments on the Dylan Larkin injury.

Derek Lalonde spoke to reporters on Saturday night following a scary injury to Dylan Larkin.

The Detroit Red Wings received quite a scare on Saturday night when captain Dylan Larkin was knocked out cold during a game against the Ottawa Senators.

Larkin was struck in the back of the head by Ottawa Senators forward Mathieu Joseph and would crash face first down to the ice where he would lay motionless for what felt like several long moments. Larkin would eventually regain consciousness and was helped off the ice, but all of the concern following tonight's game remains on the health of the Red Wings captain.

As you might expect, Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde was pressed on this topic during his post game media availability, but the head coach had no real updates to share. That the Red Wings captain will need further evaluation is in and of itself not a great sign, and you have to wonder how long it might be before an official update on Larkin's status.

Larkin is having himself a terrific season with 11 goals and 14 assists for a total of 25 points in just 24 games, and it would be unfortunate to see that derailed by injury.

Stay tuned for more updates.
