Derek Lalonde furious with NHL officials in the third period.
The head coach of the Detroit Red Wings was in disbelief at the calls from officials on the ice.
Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde was not happy with the officiating his team received on Sunday afternoon as the Red Wings welcomed the Minnesota Wild to Little Caesars Arena.
In the third period of that game Lalonde was left in disbelief after one of his top forwards, the recently signed Alex DeBrincat, found himself in the penalty box after being on the receiving end of a slew-foot from Wild forward Ryan Hartman. To his credit, Hartman did a very good job of disguising his cheap shot on DeBrincat, so good in fact that the officials completely missed it.
DeBrincat would get back to his feet and, understandably frustrated, he would retaliate with a crosscheck to Hartman that would result in DeBrincat getting a trip to the box.
Seeing one of his star players manhandled in such a manner and ending up a man down in the process produced exactly the kind of reaction you would expect from Lalonde who had a lengthy discussion with the officials on the ice. Although there was no audio of what Lalonde was saying, you can quite easily read what the head coach was saying on his lips.
