Former NHL forward Derick Brassard, who played his last season in the league back in 2022-2023, is making a return to the ice with Genève-Servette in Switzerland.

This was first reported by journalist Nicolas St-Pierre on Wednesday, via TVA Sports.

The 38-year-old veteran center signed a contract, valid through the remainder of the current season. His new team currently sits fifth in the Swiss National League with 53 points in 32 games.

Brassard will be reunited with several former NHL players, including Finns Markus Granlund and Jesse Puljujarvi, as well as former Montreal Canadiens prospect Tim Bozon.

In 1,013 NHL games, Brassard, who was the sixth overall pick in the 2006 draft, recorded 215 goals and 330 assists for 545 points.

As a true journeyman in the league, he played for ten NHL teams over his career but is best known for his years with the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, and Ottawa Senators.

In June 2024, Brassard had announced his retirement from professional hockey following 16 seasons in the National Hockey League. He had suffered a torn ligament in his ankle during the late stages of the 2023 season but was never able to recover to make a return.

We wish him luck in Switzerland and can’t wait to see some highlights of his.
