The Jets will be hosting! Full details in the link below.
This just in, details of the 2026 NHL Heritage Classic have been accidentally leaked via the Winnipeg Jets' website.
A fan on social media discovered a hidden page on the team's website that announced details of the event. The webpage has since been deleted but it contained the following message:
The 2026 NHL Heritage Classic will be October 25th between the Canadiens and Jets at the 32,000-seat Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, home of the CFL’s Blue Bombers
Since the webpage has been taken down in a rush and since there's no mention of an announcement from either team or the NHL, we have to assume that this was a premature release.
Again, this is all unsubstantiated rumor at this point, but if it turns out to be true then this is a major win for the Jets and the city of Winnipeg. The Jets have technically hosted a Heritage Classic game before, acting as the home team for the 2016 Heritage Classic against the Calgary Flames but that game was held at Mosaic Field in Regina, Saskatchewan. So, this will be the first time that the city of Winnipeg has hosted an outdoor game.
It's interesting that the game is scheduled for October 25th because, although Winnipeg has a sub-arctic climate the average temperature in late October is still above freezing. This isn't the first time that the league has held an outdoor game in mild temperatures, so I'm sure it'll all work out but it still gives me a reason to say, "Hmmmmm".
