The Detroit Red Wings win their game against an old divisional rival, the Nashville Predators with a 3-2 score, and moved in the top spot of the Atlantic division, tied with Montreal.
It was the supporting cast who contributed in last night's game, with Brendan Smith, Riley Sheahan and Luke Glendenning scoring the goals. Petr Mrazek made 24 saves to clinch the win.
Brendan Smith has now scored 4 points in his last 4 games:
"It's hard to score in this league and sometimes they go in and sometimes they don't," Smith said. "Even before when I wasn't getting them, I thought I was making good plays but they weren't going in."
Head coach Jeff Blashill was particularly pleased with his offensive players presence in front of all-star goaltender, Pekka Rinne:
"I think our net front has been really, really good," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. "If you look back at lots of the goals and even some of the near misses, we've had great net front. It's a big part of hockey today and certainly a big part of what we want to do."
Nashville's head coach Peter Laviolette credited the Red Wings for their agressive play, especially in the neutral zone and the players' presence in the Predators' shooting lanes:
"They were aggressive in the zone," Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. "They were in the shooting lanes quite a bit. We did have some looks, made zone time, we just couldn't seem to find the puck on the net."
Rookie star forward Dylan Larkin missed his first game of the season with an upper-body injury.
Detroit will have a chance to take the first place in the Atlantic division when they face another old foe when they play the Minnesota Wild on Monday.
