Devastating update for Zach Hyman and the Oilers!
THIS JUST IN… and it’s not good. Details below:
The Edmonton Oilers will have to make it to the Stanley Cup Final without forward Zach Hyman, per Jason Gregor. Hyman left Tuesday’s game and didn’t return after receiving a hit from Dallas Stars’ Mason Marchment midway through the first period. As soon as he got hit, Hyman dropped his stick and favored his right arm. He immediately left the ice and headed to the Oilers’ dressing room 9:17 into the game. After 3 minutes, 11 seconds, of action, Game 4 was over for him.
Now, Gregor reports that Hyman will not play in Game 5 and is unlikely to return for the rest of the Western Conference Final.
“Still waiting to see if he’ll return later in the playoffs,” he also wrote.
When Hyman left the game, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was first to predict what seems to be happening at the moment, saying on the panel:
“When a guy goes right to the dressing room like this, you’re worried about it,” Friedman said. “Anybody who’s ever had their arm bent back like that, you worry about shoulder, maybe wrist. So hopefully it’s not as bad as it looked.”
“But when a player like him goes charging off the ice like that, you know that they don’t like what they feel in the moment.”
The Oilers went on to win the game, in most part for Hyman, and have taken a 3-1 series lead against the Stars. The Western Final could wrap up on Thursday in Dallas with a win from Edmonton.
What it means for Hyman? I guess we will have to wait and see what it means.
