Devils have to be fuming after a terrible update on Jack Hughes freak injury.
The New Jersey Devils have to be fuming right now.
There was a surprising report this week when it was revealed that Devils star forward Jack Hughes had been injured during a team dinner. It was a very strange report but after the dust had settled it was indeed confirmed that Hughes had suffered a cut to his hand.
The hope was of course that this would prove to be relatively minor, however a recent update from National Hockey League insider David Pagnotta has revealed that things may be more serious than was originally believed. During a recent radio appearance, Pagnotta revealed that Hughes required surgery to repair the damage to his hand.
"He's having surgery to repair whatever damage is there, that in and of itself is not great but there's a worry that this might be a bit more serious," revealed Pagnotta.
Hughes has struggled to remain healthy during his NHL career with Hughes playing more than 70 games in an NHL season only once throughout his career thus far, and this type of freak accident is the last thing he and the Devils needed.
What makes things even worse was that Hughes was off to a very strong start with 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in just 17 games this season.
Update: Devils confirm the news from Pagnotta and have reported that Hughes is expected to be out for the next 8 weeks. Devastating news to be sure.
