When news first surfaced that Columbus Blue Jackets star rookie Adam Fantilli had suffered a cut to his left leg during Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Kraken, it was reported that he would undergo further evaluation in order to determine how much time he would miss.
On Wednesday, the team unfortunately revealed that Fantilli is expected to miss eight weeks with a calf laceration. It has however been said that the injury could have been much worse if the rookie star player hadn't been wearing a Kevlar sock.
We’ve seen devastating injuries after players have been cut by skate blades in recent memory and Fantilli’s injury will need to the time to full recover. The young rookie appeared to suffer the injury when hitting Kraken forward Jared McCann into the boards. After delivering the hit, Fantilli hobbled off the ice and into the dressing room. He did not return to the contest and the Blue Jackets ended up losing 4-2.
Here is the replay of the contact between McCann and Fantilli that caused the latter to head to the dressing room and now being on the sideline for weeks to come.
Columbus currently sits last place in the Metropolitan Division with a 15-24-10 record on the season.
The 19-year-old forward has put 12 goals and 15 assists over 48 games with the Blue Jackets this season.
We here at Hockey Feed wish him well in his recovery.
