Devastating updates on Jakob Chychrun and Ridly Greig.
The Ottawa Senators get a barrage of bad news to kick off the weekend on Saturday morning.
The Ottawa Senators have been hit with a barrage of bad news this morning, bad news that couldn't possibly have come at a worse time for a team that is barely clinging to even the slimmest of chances of making the playoffs this season.
The first sign that not all was well in Ottawa was the announcement that both defenseman Jakob Chychrun and Ridly Greig would be out of action this evening against a very tough opponent in the New Jersey Devils. As we would learn, that was unfortunately just the start of a cascade of bad news.
A report from TSN 1200 has now confirmed that Chychrun will be out for a few weeks with what is being described as a lower body injury. This will likely keep Chychrun out for most of the games remaining on the Senators' regular season schedule, which is set to wrap on the 13th of April, but that was unfortunately still not the worst of it.
TSN 1200 has also confirmed that Greig's injury appears to be more serious, with the 20 year old forward being ruled out for the remainder of the season with a sternum injury. Greig was selected in the first round (28th overall) by the Senators at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and has only appeared in 16 games for the Senators this season. You have to believe that this comes as a big disappointment for the talented young centerman.
