Being the very first captain of a NHL franchise is truly special in itself. Tom Fitzgerald had this unique opportunity back in 1998-1999 and he remembers the experience like it was yesterday. He recalls perfectly the master plan that was put in place back in the days.

"Nashville has a very unique place in my heart and in my family's heart because of what it allowed me in life. So now that I look back, yeah, there's a lot of pride when I watch them play and know that from the get-go, there was a game plan. That game-plan was to draft well, to accumulate draft picks and develop them well. Sometime, I plan on running my own team and I would do it the same way."

Now assistant GM for the New Jersey Devils, you could expect him to cheer for his own team only. However, he's the Preds biggest fan these days and he's proud to tell it.

"I'm happy for those guys because it's been a long time coming. I know how hard they work, and I know this is what they set out to do from the get-go. It hasn't come easy. There's been heartbreak there over the last bunch of years to not get out of the [first two rounds], but adversity makes you stronger. So I'm really happy for them."

Some fans have probably already forgotten about this founding member of the Preds, but he has a very special place in his heart of the Nashville organization, even now that he's an enemy!.
